Personable Pets Dog Training Hosts 2nd Annual Big Dog Agility Fundraiser
Agility event scheduled to raise funds for local mastiff pet rescue

LOUISBURG, KS, February 10, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- We have all seen them - those beautiful, massive, square headed animals that look more like miniature horses than dogs. We are, of course, referring to the English Mastiff - one of the largest and most lovable breeds in the canine family.

Unfortunately, the number of abandoned English Mastiffs continues to rise. Whether these numbers are a result of owners having to part with beloved family pets due to the economic downturn or from people who have just tired of pet ownership - homeless mastiffs are a common problem. That is where Mastiff Hope comes in. Not only does Mastiff Hope rescue animals turned into shelters and found as strays, they also try to assist owners who can no longer provide a home for their mastiff.

According to Sharon Woodrum, Certified Professional Dog Trainer and owner of Personable Pets Inc. Dog Training of Louisburg, Kansas, "When a dog is rescued by Mastiff Hope, it receives a full veterinarian check-up, standard vaccinations and is spayed or neutered before rehoming. And none of this work is free. This basic medical care averages around $350 per dog." Woodrum, who fosters dogs for Mastiff Hope, a mastiff rescue group serving Kansas and Missouri, continues, "That is why we have joined up with Tails R Waggin to sponsor this fund raising event. It is the least we can do to help the Mastiff Hope volunteers' fulfill their mission - rescuing all those homeless gentle giants. And holding a Big Dog Agility workshop is a great way to include all our big dog friends."

The 2nd Annual Big Dog Agility Fund Raiser will be held on Sunday, March 28th from 1-3 p.m. at the Tails R Waggin daycare and boarding facility located at 6976 W. 152nd Terrace in Overland Park, Kansas. This workshop is open to dogs who weigh over 80 pounds and is limited to ten dog/handler pairs. Tuition is $25 per dog, with all proceeds going towards Mastiff Hope. There will also be time for socializing, question and answer sessions with the trainer, and tours of the Tails R Waggin facility before and after the workshop.

"This workshop is just for fun. No previous agility experience is required. This is just a great opportunity for people with larger dogs to give agility a try!" Woodrum says. Members of the public are encouraged to come out and watch the fun. If you are not participating in the Agility workshop please leave your dog at home.

In addition to donating at the Big Dog Agility event in March, people wishing to sponsor rescued mastiffs are encouraged to make a donation by visiting www.paypal.com and selecting MasitffHope@embarqmail.com as the payee. Donations can also be made through Mastiff Hope's website by visiting www.MastiffHope.org. Mastiff Hope is a 501(c)3 corporation, so all pledges and donations are tax deductible.

Mastiff Hope is a rescue organization serving the Midwestern United States - primarily the states of Kansas and Missouri, and more specifically, the Kansas City metropolitan area. The group exists to place stray or abandoned Mastiffs into adoptive homes that will provide a high level of care, and where the dogs are loved and respected.
